A listener emailed me the other day and laid out how star wars fits with Strauss-Howe generational theory. Lots of questions here of course, but it's interesting none-the-less. We can talk about it in the comments:
Here's how I see it when you overlay the theory on the Saga.
Episode 1: A High
The Republic is stable and prosperous. The Trade Federation/Naboo dispute is resolved quickly and placidity is restored. Obi Wan is still a padawan for most of the movie, and Anakin is even younger. Prophet gen in childhood strongly says this is a High; late in a High maybe, but still.
Episode 2: An Awakening
Widespread unrest and the first time we see substance abuse (death sticks) in the Saga. Prophets Obi Wan and Anakin are well into rising adulthood and little Boba Fett is orphaned and abandoned (Nomad).
Episode 3: An Awakening
In addition to the above, we have horrific violence against children (slaughter of the younglings), very typical of a Nomad childhood.
Solo: An Unraveling
Nomads in coming of age/rising adulthood.
Kenobi: An Unraveling
Child Heroes getting raised by Midlife Prophets (Obi Wan) and elder Artists (Bail Organa).
Rogue One, and Episodes 4-6: A Crisis
I trust this is self evident.
The Mandalorian: A High
The New Republic is restoring justice and order, and a new Jedi Academy is founded.
The Book of Boba Fett: A High
An aging Nomad makes his way.
Episode 7-9: An Awakening (I mean come on, they put it in the title of the opener)
Kylo Ren: conflicted Artist
Rey: a young woman beginning a mystical journey (Prophet)
Finn: a young man awakening to his true self after being raised in a group think culture
Aaron ( @OldWindways ) stopped by yesterday and we talked about the private space initiatives of Branson (Virgin Galactic), Bezos, and Musk.
Starting today, all your paid subscriptions will be moved over to substack!
I'm still a huge fan of the locals platform, but with my small audience, and desire to publish podcasts and articles directly, substack is a better fit for The Local Maximum right now.
The substack is at localmaximum.substack.com - you should be getting some emails for the latest episodes. Always feel free to reach out at [email protected]
Folks - I know we've been on hiatus for the last few weeks, but I'm looking forward to getting back into the Local Maximum, and also supporting our move over to substack! I hope to reach out to you individually as well!
Happy holidays everyone!
Let's disrupt our festivities with some thought-provoking insights into our future.
In this week's episode, Max and Aaron finished their discussion on "The Fourth Turning is Here" and talk about what may be in store for the rest of the Fourth Turning Crisis and what the next several decades might look like as a result.
Make sure to tune in as you welcome the new year!
